"The Revelation of God" Tonight at 6:10 from Job 38-42

Tonight we began our “final approach” of landing the Job plane as we begin chapter 38.  But that doesn’t mean we will land the plane tonight.  Oh, no.  After two weeks of covering 34 chapters dealing with the conversations of Job’s four friends, we must slow the plane down again for final approach.  If you attempt to land the plane at that speed it will result in a crash.  So we must slow it down before landing.

The closing chapters of Job are holy ground.  Its “taking-off-shoes” ground.  This is the holiest ground of Job in all of the 42 chapters.  Because for the first time, God speaks to Job.  Why has God remained silent?  Why does God choose now to speak and not when Job has inquired of Him earlier?  What does this say to us about the timing of God?

And the first words out of God’s mouth is revealing Job has been walking in darkness.  What do you do when you walk in darkness of not knowing what God is doing and why God is doing what He is doing?  Or why He’s not doing what you want Him to do?

This is where we will be tonight at 6:10.  Join us live in the Auditorium or online at rfbc.sermon.net or on Facebook at Rainsville First

"Resetting Our Mission As A Church" this Sunday, August 9, 2020

There are periodically times when individuals, families, and organizations need to “reset” their mission and purpose.  In the course of the mundane, we can drift into waters that do not serve our original purpose or mission.  Like a boat that is drifting along, you will be suddenly awakened to the reality you are nowhere close to where you intended to be or need to be.  And its time to “reset” course.

Churches are no exception.  The first ten years of a new church's life are filled with energy and passion. Then complancey sits in and the church begins to drift.  They don't mean to any more than the boat means to get off course.  It just happens.

Periodically in the life of a church, God will grace the church with fresh vision and if it is received, then a rebirth can happen.  But a rebirth is never final.  For a church to remain vital and on course, it must "reset" the mission from time to time.

With our third annual Discipleship Conference coming up August 14-15, it would be a good time to "reset the mission" of the church.  This Sunday we will be looking at Matthew 10:1 and considering what is essential in the life of a believer and their church.
